  • car emergency clean-up kit
    1 16-ounce box (454g) baking soda
    1 travel-size box baby wipes

In order to be prepared for any kind of mess that can happen in the car, keep a box of baking soda and a small box of baby wipes handy. Sprinkle some baking soda on muddy spots on the floor mats, and they'll be much easier to vacuum up after the mud dries. Or, if you happen to spill a little gas when you're refueling at the pump, sprinkle some baking soda on a baby wipe and use it to clean your fingers. There are too many uses to list them all here, but you'll be happy that you have both items on hand.

  • cleaning windshields and keeping ice off
If you have to leave your car outside overnight in the winter, mix 3 parts vinegar to 1 part water and coat the windows with this solution. • car window anti-icer
    1/4 cup (75g) salt
    1 1/2 cups (350ml) warm water

To avoid the burdensome scraping and shoveling associated with winter snowstorms, trY using the same salt strategy that works on roadways when another round of the white stuff is on its way. Dissolve the salt in the warm water, and wipe it on your car windows. The salt will lower the melting point of ice and snow when it hits the car, making the digging out process much easier. Tip: Take a trip through the car wash as soon as the weather improves; prolonged exposure to salt can harm the paint surface and leave your car more vulnerable to rust.

    1 16-ounce box (454g) cornmeal

If you car is leaking a little oil, you're most likely to see the evidence on your garage floor or driveway. Fortunately, the cleanup will be easy (and cheap) to tackle with this formula-unlike the leak itself. Let dry overnight, then sweep or use a shop-vac to get rid of it in the morning.

  • egged car cleaner
    1/4 cup (60ml) vinegar
1 gallon (4 liters) warm water

Most likely a result of a practical joke, an egg-splattered car is not a laughing matter. Eggs can leave a protein-based residue that can badly damage a car's paint surface. To remedy the situation, act as quickly as possible: Mix the vinegar solution to the affected areas liberally, picking off as much of the eggshell as possible (the shell can scratch the paint, so remove all that you can beforehand). Let sit for 5 to 10 minutes and then use a clean, damp rag to wipe the car clean. Repeat, as necessary, until all egg is removed.
